Recordings
My blog and YouTube profile have a lot of junk really. It’s really part of The Artist’s Way “artistic recovery” process for me that I post this stuff. Meaning, what I’m going after is a flow, producing stuff, not judging or censoring my stuff too much. Just hoping that the better stuff will keep coming.
That being said, there is something to be said for putting your best foot forward. So, just in case you’ve come across this stuff and wondered why I post such junk, please take a minute to listen to some more polished stuff that I’ve done. All of these are self-released recordings.
With Blasé Cabaret:
I played with great pleasure in Blasé Cabaret from ‘91 to ‘95. We put out two recordings. Subs (like the sandwich) in 1993, following by Clockin’ in 1994. You can hear one of my favorite BC tunes from Clockin’, A Pair of Birds on http://blasecabaret.com The metal guitar and clarinet harmony part at 6:40 is my favorite! We might put more of the tracks online at some point.
Playing with Blasé Cabaret was a lot of fun. I had a little space to try some of the crazy bass stuff I was working on at the time, and it was great fun to make the music which was really fresh and original sounding.
After BC disbanded in 1995, I couldn’t quite find the right fit for my playing, and I had wanted to do some solo repertoire, so I started working on that.
Solo Recordings:
Music for the 6-String Bass
In 1996, I recorded a set of classical pieces arranged for electric bass. You can listen to them at http://bentorrey.com:2112 and you can click each track for some comments on each.
JS Benny
After a long gap that I talk about in my About page, I started working on recording “scratch” tracks of the Bach Cello Suites for electric bass in 2006. My good friend Nate dubbed the project “JS Benny” with his son Silas contributing artwork for the first suite! So far I’ve done 1-5, and had planned to do # 6 in December 2007, but I’ve put that back a bit. In fact, I’ll most certainly do 2 and 5 again on fretless. 6 actually might be a release quality thing if I can work it up just a bit. I’m planning to do that now maybe in the summer of 2008 and probably actually release it, perhaps with some of the other solo rep I’ve been working on for 6-string.
