I was listening to WGBH Saturday morning classical a few days back, and happened to catch some lute music. So beautifully played, but I didn’t recognize the music. I pulled over and listened. Wow! Music of Sylvius Weiss, a contemporary and acquaintence of JS Bach, played by an amazing musician Robert Barto.

Barto has release 7 albums of Weiss material, you can get them all on iTunes for $5.99, that would be $42 well spent. I’m going to buy a few on iTunes and a few of the albums physically.

As usual, I’m listening to them with an ear to which ones I might play on my bass, so far only the G minor prelude from Sonata # 25 seems a remote possibility. More on that later.
